Choosing and acquiring labeling machinery is based on a variety of considerations and criteria, in combinations unique to every client. However, at IMS and elsewhere in the industry, we see some requirements have become standard expectations for most products.

A printer’s versatility is one important requirement to be met. It should be able to handle different types of labels as well as various materials so as to not be a limit to imagination and possible applications.

It should also provide easy roll changes. As in most other industries, the easier, the better! A printer that is too complex will ruin the user’s experience, hence the interest for easy, quick, and efficient systems that help save time and can be operated without hassle.

Machinery is also expected to be more proactive than before and do more than just print some labels. For instance, detecting flaws in labels on the production line in real-time matters in many applications where the precision and accuracy of the information being printed is crucial.

And in a fast-changing world where laws and guidelines need to be strictly respected, new challenges impact the choice of machinery, directly or indirectly.

I‘m thinking, for example, of automated data collection to measure machine performance, or the capability of removing allergens and microbes left behind on packaging and labels. Such requirements could become much more common.

All in all, labeling equipment is constantly evolving to better answer the changing needs of manufacturers. And us, we’re here to help you make the right choices!
